Art used to be an Olympic event
It wasn't always about abs and drug scandals in the Olympics. The thought of a great Olympian being a skilled artist and sportsperson enthralled the founder of the modern Games, Baron Pierre de Coubertin. Between 1912 and 1948, he was responsible for the awarding of medals for sporting-inspired achievements in architecture, music, art, sculpture, and literature.
Because of all the love messages she receives, the Mona Lisa has her own mailbox at the Louvre.
Many have fallen prey to the portrait's 'limpid and blazing eyes,' giving her flowers, poetry, and, yes, love notes over the years. In 1852, artist Luc Maspero purportedly reached a new high – and then a new low – by jumping off a hotel balcony because "for years I had battled hopelessly with her grin." "I'd rather die."
Artist Willard Wigan once inhaled his own work
What exactly is it, you ask? Is he saying he inhaled a painting? He has to be colossal! That's not the case. Wigan's works are referred to as'micro-sculptures,' since they are so small that they must be examined using a microscope. Wigan's art requires him to halt his heartbeat and work in between beats. Alice, from Alice in Wonderland, was the work he breathed, but she was supposedly much better when rebuilt.
The colour wheel predates the United States
This is particularly remarkable given that the United States is one of the world's oldest modern democracies. The color wheel was established by Sir Isaac Newton in 1706 by refracting white sunlight into its six colors. The realization that color is caused only by light was revolutionary, and the wheel was particularly valuable for artists, who could now easily see the most effective color complementation.
